Reverend Robert A.(Bobby) Kates October 1, 1951 – December 27, 2016


Reverend Robert A. (Bobby) Kates, 65, of 5325 Fleetwood Oaks, #252, Dallas, Texas died on December 27, 2016 after a brief stay at Presbyterian Village North being treated for broken ankles and Polymyositis, a rare inflammatory muscle disease.

Bobby was born in Huntsville, Alabama, the son of William A. Kates Jr. (deceased) and Alexandria McLean Kline (deceased).

Bobby Kates graduated from the California Institute of the Arts in 1981 and used his fantastic talents to create special events, commercial design and seasonal decor in the Dallas area for the next couple of decades for Bill Reed Decorations, Gale Sliger Productions and J Monroe Designs.

He also illustrated the award-winning textbook, Art of the Event: Complete Guide to Designing and Decorating Special Events. Upon receiving a call to the ministry Bobby enrolled in Brite Divinity School at TCU where he earned a Master of Divinity in 2015. He was ordained on October 22, 2016 at the Cathedral of Hope UCC, his spiritual home and family, where he served as Volunteer Associate Pastor for People with Disabilities A celebration of Bobby’s life will be held at the Cathedral of Hope, 5910 Cedar Springs Road, Dallas, Texas 75235 on January 21st at 11:30 am.

He joined sometime in the 2000 season as a bass and sang 3 out of 4 concerts that year.

He dropped out for ten years and returned for the 2011-2012 season when he sang 2 out of 4 concerts.

The next season, 2012-2013 he sang 1 out of 6 concert
