UNT Sacred Music Courses

At the University of North Texas in Denton, Dr. Jesse Eschbach, Professor of Organ, and Dr. Charles S. Brown, instructor in Sacred Music, announce a new Sacred Music sequence of four courses: (1) an introduction to the contexts of Western religious worship (called “The Languages of Worship”), and three courses where each course covers one of three historical periods in Western worship practices: (1) antiquity to 1510; (2) 1510 to 1820; and (3) 1820 to the present day. The evolution of ritual musical elements is at the center of each of these courses. Each of the courses is self-contained and there are no prerequisites. The course being offered this fall is (1) “Languages of Worship.” The first class session is September 1 at 1:00 p.m.

The courses can be taken for credit at either the graduate or undergraduate level. It is also possible to audit the classes. And we would very much like to have visitors at any of the individual class meetings. The classes meet on Fridays 1:00 p.m. – 3:50 p.m. in the Organ Recital Hall (Room 253) in the Music Building, 415 Avenue C, Denton, TX 76203. Note that the journey up 35-E to Denton is now much easier with the completion of toll lanes as well as improvements in the regular traffic flow. For information regarding these courses and individual class meetings, please contact Dr. Brown at 214- 499-7044 or by e-mail at: fantzi@msn.com
