A Turtle’s Tribute:

Jeff, who grew up on a cotton farm near the town of Fabens in El Paso County, was born in 1961.

He gained his appreciation for the land from his early childhood and from attending Texas Tech University. He returned to El Paso after college and moved to Dallas in 1981.

Jeff worked for various Dallas landscape companies before establishing his own business, Strachan Landscaping in Dallas, in the late 1980’s.

Jeff died at his Dallas home on Friday, June 3, 1994. Services were held on Monday, June 6, 1994 in Fabens, Texas. A Celebration of His Life was held on Tuesday, June 7, 1994 at the Sammons Center for the Arts. Dr. Timothy Seelig spoke at the memorial and sang “No One Is Alone”. The Turtle Creek Chorale sang “Deep River” and “The Majesty and Glory” in his honor

At the time of his death, Jeff was survived by his father & mother, Gene & Charlene Strachan of Fabens, Texas; a brother, Wayne Strachan of Fort Hancock; and a Sister, Patti Miller of Fort Hancock.

A Turtle’s History

He first performed with the Chorale in “1 PLUS 1 EQUALS MUSIC!” in October 1988 at the Caruth Auditorium, Southern Methodist University. He sang with the Chorale through March 1994 and was featured in the following productions:

A NIGHT AT THE OPERA – March 1991 – sang “Rigoletto Quartette” with ENCORE!
MAGIC! – December 1992 – played a part in the Tutti Fruiti Skit.

THE WIZARD OF OZ – October 1993 – played the part of an Ozian Polisher.
