Obituary for John Michael Davis

Funeral services for John Michael (Mike) Davis, 50, of Mansfield, Texas will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2017 in the Rosser Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Glover officiating. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Rosser Funeral Home. Mike passed away Monday, June 12, 2017 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born in Odessa, Texas on July 24, 1966, the son of Dorothy Anne (Warwick) and Billy Frank Davis. Mike was a music composer and was head Band Director at Juan Seguin High School in Arlington, Texas. He was of the Baptist faith. Mike was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Anne Davis of Cleburne; brother, Mark R. Davis of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister, Sherry Lynn Davis-Manes of New Orleans, Louisiana; several nieces, nephews and other family and friends

A Turtle’s History

1.John Michael (Mike) Davis joined the Turtle Creek Chorale Sept. 15, 1994 as a baritone. He sang three concerts in that season and three more in the next season. He then took the next six seasons off, returning in 2002. He then sang that and the next two seasons without missing  a concert for a career total of nineteen concerts . So he sang in a total of five season.

2.His first concert was Betty, Broadway and the Boys in October 1994.

3.His final concert was Forever Plaid in June 2005.

4.He was a member of ENCORE! in the 16th season.

5.He was a member of the small group Turtle Soup in his final three seasons.

6.He served as conductor of that group in his final season with the TCC.

7.During the 24 and 25 seasons he served on three committees: Anniversary Committee; the Performance Committee; and the Retreat Committee.

HOLIDAYS OF THE FUTURE – December 1995 – sang Santa-ma-Jazz as a member of ENCORE! and sang Christmas Fits with ENCORE! and Acafellas

THE FA LA LA FOLLIES – December 2002 – played the part of a Reindeer and sang Seasonal Sounds as part of a quartet

CLASSICAL SERENADE – March 2004 – sang Deh Vieni alla finestra (Serenade) as a member of Turtle Soup and played Trumpet for the World Premiere of Serenade Of Life.

KTCC RADIO HOUR – June 2004 – sang ; A Chance On Love; and Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off; as a member of Turtle Soup

JOURNEY CD – June 2004 – sang ;On Children with Turtle Soup and played Trumpet for Serenade of Life.

FESTIVE FLASHBACKS – December 2004 – Conducted Turtle Soup,performing ;Hodie Christus Natus Est and Childrens Medley

TWENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT – February 2005 – sang backup to solos of Manly Men with Turtle Soup.
