A Turtle’s Tribute:

A Turtle’s History

Owen S. Gibson was born Nov. 21, 1937. He joined the Turtle Creek Chorale in January 1995, in its 15th season and sang in the baritone section until his last concert in the 27th season.

He sang a total of 47 concert in his career.

His first was “Birthday & Bon Voyage” in March 1995; his last was  “Family: Pipes & Drums” in December 2006.

In the 24th and 25th seasons, Owen served on the Poinsettia and Auction committees.

Owen also had three feature performances: in “Simply Christmas Through the Eyes of a Child” in Dec. 1996, Owen played the trombone in the “Sugar Plum Fairies” band; in the March 1997 production of “The Wizard of Oz” Owen took the role of an Ozian; and in “B: Bells, Bows, and Bangles” in December 2000 Owen assumed the part of “Doc” in “The Love Boat” segment of “St. Nick at Night.”

Although he worked mostly as a chauffeur and a professional driver during his years with the TCC, Owen will be remembered fondly by many of us as our favorite vacation-time pet sitter.

Owen passed away in the Texas hill country on Jan. 30, 2019, age 81.

    Sue Gibson says:

I was fortunate to visit my uncle Owen a few weeks before his passing. When I would visit him or talk on the phone, he always relayed his love of music and reminiscing about his experiences in TCC. I will always think of his love for animals, his beloved trombone, and the community he found through the TCC family. Thank you, TCC, for giving him that.
