A Turtle’s Tribute:

Richard was born January 21, 1955 in Pennsylvania

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Texas State University.

Richard was a member of the Chorale during its first two or three seasons. He first performed with the Chorale in a concert in October 1980 at Caruth Auditorium, Southern Methodist University. He sang with the Chorale through June 1987.

Richard was one of Doris Days many fans. As is her custom, she answers all of her fan mail. It had been Richard’s habit to always remember her birthday with a card or a call. After Richard’s death, his companion Kay called Doris and gave her the news. She responded sadly that she would miss him, and especially his Christmas card each year. Richard and Doris had also met, but I do not remember where or when. She sent him a few cards through the years.

In addition to Doris Day, Richard loved singing and dancing, the Lutheran Church, Beverly Sills, classic cars, and life.

He died May 4, 1989 in Dallas

Richard is survived by his wife, Kay Ellington Waidelich; parents, Mr. & Mrs. Waideilch; brother, Bill Waidelich and care giver, Penny Pickle, a nurse.
